MUSIC BY RUFUS HARRIS

Takin' it to the Streets
Rufus' latest release is a collection of 5 cover tunes that have inspired him over the years and that contain, in his opinion - spiritual undertones.  Songs include: Takin' it to the Streets by Michael McDonald; We Don't Need Another Hero by Tina Turner; Maybe I'm Amazed  & Coming Up by Paul McCarney; and If I Ever Lose My Faith by Sting.   While Rufus chose not to change any of the words of the songs to stay true to the writers' work, the lyrics have a much deeper message than perhaps was intended .  "I don't know what the writers had in mind when they wrote these songs," says Rufus.  "But when I sing them, I direct them to God. I believe they have tremendous spiritual significance"  His creative renditions bring new life to these timeless songs and beckons listeners to not only listen with their ears but with their heart.

Special thanks to the Nelson Sisters for their background vocals on We Don't Need Another Hero: Jenna McCormick, Ashley Nelson, Jessica Nelson and Erica Nelson.  The ladies' rich harmonies made the song extra special.  Rufus reflects on working with the women in the studio several years ago.  "We recorded the vocals about 15 years ago," says Rufus.  Siblings have vocals that often blend together very well.  The Nelson Sisters had spot on harmonies.  They  were very young at the time but were professional and really fun to work with."

Basics
Basics is a collection of songs from two of Rufus' CDs: rufus harris (self-titled) and How Do You Read It?   Originally, these songs featured the electric guitar as the principle instrument. These versions, however, are more acoustically-driven.  He has also included four new songs: a cover of the beautiful song Tapestry by Glenn Kaiser (Rez Band); Blessed Abundantly (the 1st song he wrote as a believer); Rescue – inspired by Fanny Crosby (1864); and a brand new Happy Birthday to You song.   Most of the songs he chose for basics have spiritual concepts that he considers to be the basics of Christian faith and deal with topics such as giving praise to God, the importance of diversity, Christian lifestyle, and sharing hope.  He calls this CD "prison-inspired" and created this project because there were many places he was invited to perform his music but for security reasons could not take in his electric guitar – namely prison. So he performed the songs on acoustic guitar and wanted a project that represented this sound. We hope you enjoy it!

Come and Listen
Come and Listen: Songs of the Savior is Rufus Christmas project released in 2006. Often dubbed as Scrooge, Rufus felt Christmas had lost its true meaning and the season was one he began to dislike.  But over the years fans had encouraged him to record Christmas songs.  He released Come and Listen: Songs of the Savior. Come and Listen proved that there was nothing Rufus couldn’t tackle.  This album manages to capture many of the holiday classics that you’ve come to know and love.  The creative spin that Rufus lends to these Christmas songs is nothing short of refreshing.  These carefully crafted renditions manage to maintain the magic of old, while new musical arrangement keep listeners guessing as each song unfolds.
