Martin Stuart

Martin Stuart

Martin began taking piano lessons at age 9 from a neighbor – Sterling Glenn.   Shortly after, he started performing at various events at school and at his church in Detroit.  He enrolled in the music program at Cass Technical High School but soon transferred to an electronics program at his father’s request.  But his passion was always music.  He asked his mother if she would pay for private music lessons.  And she did.

He began to excel on the piano.  He was influenced early on by his brother Cleve; a neighbor - William Wooten who often toured with the Spinners; and Herbie Hancock to name a few.

Martin has continued his passion for music, performing at various churches and venues in Metro Detroit.  He continues to grow musically in the styles of gospel, classical and jazz by taking private lessons from some of the areas finest pianists including Professors: Kenneth Minor; Arthur LaBrew (Editor and Chief at the Michigan Music Research Center); and Clarence Beasley who has been teaching and performing for over 30 years.  He often assists other talented musicians with their musical projects.

He performed with Rufus Harris from 2007 through June 2010.
