Happy New Year!   January 2003 Newsletter

Good Music, Good Coffee, Good Company

December Highlights – Intimate would be the best way to describe last month’s show at 4thFridays.  We gave our awesome houseband the night off but the evening was still rich with acoustic sounds and engaging storytelling.

rufus harris performed songs he rarely shares – those he had written at a very young age and those performed while with his band  - Jubal.  He discussed how his interest in music began, grew, and developed over the years.  He also shared stories of his life in Alaska and how these formidable years impacted his musical style and content.

The Poet's Corner - Paul McKenzie – a singer, writer, guitarist, and actor was featured in our poet’s corner.  He very eloquently recited some of the letters of the Apostle Paul from memory.   His performance was impressive and intense.  He spoke to Rufus afterwards onstage explaining the techniques he uses for scripture memorization and what inspired him to incorporate drama in his ministry.  For more information about Paul’s three-fold ministry, visit   www.paulmckenzieministries.com.
Cindy Young - was great!  What a talented vocalist and guitarist!  Her poetic sophistication coupled with a voice rich with emotional intensity was well-received.  Many of the songs she shared are shaped by her love of the outdoors.  She performed tunes from her current and upcoming releases and talked to Rufus onstage afterwards about her aspirations and inspiration.  She is currently working on a new project to be released later this year.

We’d like to make a correction to Cindy’s musical influences as stated in our December newsletter.  She says Neil Simon was one of her early influences not Joni Mitchell as previously stated.

Come Out and Support Local Artists!

Here’s a look at what’s coming up on January 24th.

4thFridays welcomes welcomes two fantastic guitarists back to the stage: Eclectic World Music Artist – Scott Loudon and Jazz Vocalist and Guitarist  - Paul Dozier.

Scott Loudon - returns sharing new songs from his upcoming release.  This time he lends some smooth vocals as well – which have somewhat of a Michael Franks quality. His approach to music is rare in the local Christian arts scene and is incredibly soothing and creative.  His work on guitar produces some very interesting results invoking feelings of peace and comfort while showing his remarkable versatility and musicianship.  He’ll share some new songs and this time will be accompanied by an upright bassist and percussionist.

Paul Dozier - was a real blessing when he performed at 4thFridays last July.  He’s  a Christian Jazz artist who writes good lyrics, plays guitar with great skill, and sings very well. On his latest release, Paul really steps out and demonstrates the richness, subtlety, and complexity of his music never losing sight of the powerful message.

We’re looking forward to having Scott and Paul back this month.
