Good Music, Good Coffee, Good Company

November Highlights – If you missed last month’s show, you really missed out on some great performances.
For starters rufus harris – performed a cool acoustic set.  It was really a treat to hear the band perform several of the songs unplugged. Drummer Jeannine Gardner brought an array of percussion instruments that looked as visually appealing as they sounded.

The Motor City Saints rocked the house!  These four guys were something to see – Their funky pop sound and straight up gospel message were definitely a crowd pleaser.  They delivered a high-energy performance sharing tunes from their latest release.  They are currently working on a new CD project they hope to release next year.  We’re looking forward to having them back.
The Poet’s Corner was awesome - Chris Maurer and Lawrence
Strong once again lent us their talent as the voice of Uncle Screwtape.  His devious schemes against mankind were revealed in two powerful deliveries.   Here’s an excerpt from CS Lewis’ Screwtape Letters read by
Lawrence Strong in his signature English dialect:

“ Surely you know that if a man can’t be cured of churchgoing, the next best thing is to send him all over the neighborhood looking for the church that “suits” him until he becomes a taster or connoisseur of churches.”

Of course it was quite insightful to hear the female voice of deception.  The enemy wears many faces.  Here’s an excerpt read by Chris Maurer:

“… The conditions seem ideally favorable for Spiritual Pride.  The new circle in which the patient finds himself is one of which he is tempted to be proud for many reasons other than its Christianity.  It is a more educated, more intelligent, more agreeable society than any he has yet encountered. Here is your chance. You must make him feel that he is finding his own level—that these people are “his sort” and that, coming among them, he has come home.”
Some thought provoking stuff… are we always “comfortable” with all our brothers and sisters - even when they are not of our same social or economic status or racial makeup?  Hmm…

Here’s a look at what’s coming up on December 27th.

4thFridays welcomes Singer, Songwriter, and guitarist Cindy Young to the stage.  Her music falls within the acoustic genre.  Influenced by the likes of

legendary folk singers like Joni Mitchell and Crosby Stills and Nash, Cindy performs in the local coffee house circuit: Starbucks Ann Arbor, the Gold Dollar in Detroit, and the Brickhouse in Utica.  She was also selected to perform as part of the Seeds of Expression Project, consisting of mostly visual artists.  This exhibit was featured on the PBS show “Back Stage Pass.”  An avid rock climber, she has performed at fund-raisers for the Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition in Kentucky.  Cindy is an admirer of the great outdoors and incorporates her love of nature in her music.   You can sense her passion for God and for her music as she shares the stories behind her songs.  She’ll perform original tunes from her newest release on December 27th.
