Here we go now!
Last month we had another truly grand show. What's kind of cool is that
4Fs is foresighted and
fortunate enough to do what no one else in the Detroit Metro area seems
to try to do - create a spiritual... non-religious... yet diverse
Christian shows. In September's show we featured the
talented: Michael D and Carl Thomas Gladstone. |
Carl
Thomas Gladstone - Carl was a lot of fun! His songs as
well as what he had to say in between were: encouraging; witty; and
colorful as he illustrated the story of the Savior and also chapters in
his own life.
Carl is a solid singer, songwriter /
musician who has a grasp and lucid direction of his lyrics and
melody. After his set, he talked with Rufus onstage about his
influences and how he weaves together theology and
music. He also shared about an organization (One.org) that fights
world hunger. For more information about Carl visit: |

Michael
D - This was 4F's
first time and pleasure to feature this dynamic
Grand Rapids MI artist and certainly will not be our last. Lead
singer, Michael has a great voice and shared thoughtful songs of
faith and hope. His vocals have been referred to as having
"plenty of blue-eyed soul". And we see

why. His
latest release - Things that Matter
is a great sounding project and to hear him live is simply icing on the
cake. Great stuff!
The Michael
D band was tight, with great dynamics and tasteful
instrumentation. As they ministered, it was obvious they had a
love and commitment to the Lord. These guys were also just great
folks and very supportive of our efforts at 4thFridays. We
appreciated them too!
|
|
rufus harris - The
houseband opened their first set with a cover of Michael
McDonald's (that is, the Doobie Brothers) Takin' It to the Streets. Rufus
shared that the song - although it originated from a secular source -
its message really is or should be the spirit of church. Rufus
reminisced about becoming a Christian in an auto factory in Wayne MI,
because a believer shared the Gospel with him on the job.
They also performed Believe a song about having faith
regardless of the current state of church. They closed the set
with My Life a song whih
considers God's love and our service to Him.
The band closed the night
with the smooth yet challenging UMustBeBornAgain
and Love In What You Do.
4F acknowledges and
appreciates the houseband's commitment in standing with us.

Here's what's coming up on
October 28th...
|
This is our last show of the
year (boo hoo) and what better way to celebrate than with Grand
Rapids rocker - Crisi and
poet extraordinaire Angel Rivers.
Crisi - We can't say enough good
things about this Grand Rapids artist. She first performed at
Woodward Crossing with her band back in June. Her performance was
amazing. With a Bachelor of Music Degree from Cornerstone
University, Crisi has been busy performing at national and
international venues both as a soloist and with her band. She has been
interviewed on radio and TV and has opened for several recording
artists.
Crisi is an
accomplished songwriter, singer, and acoustic guitar player having
recorded three projects. She has written many of her songs while
leading worship for two different contemporary church plants. Having a
heart for ministry is a passion to Crisi. The new CD entitled "Woman
You see" was just released this past September and is published through
Cabgirl Music. The band has performed at camps, churches, clubs,
seminars and even sporting events at the impressive VanAndel Arena in
Grand Rapids, MI. The band members are Brad Angus on percussion,
Nathan Martin on bass, Curt Hines
or Mike Marsden on electric lead guitar, and Crisi Dykstra on acoustic
guitar and vocals. These very talented artists have a great passion for
music and for the Lord. It shows in every performance.
She'll take the 4thFridays' stage this Friday. www.crisisband.com

The Poet's
Corner features... Angel Rivers
|
You've probably heard us mention
Angel before. Her fluid and rhymetic delivery coupled with
engaging words make her an absolute delight to listen to. Angel Rivers is a school teacher by
day and poet by night. She is a graduate of Tennessee State
University and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and
Chemistry.
Angel started writing poetry in the
summer of 1998 as a result of a difficult situation that she
encountered in her life. She believes God has used her gift of
poetry to deliver and heal her through the turmoil she faced and that
He now uses it to inspire all who lend an ear.
The thing that makes Angel's style
of poetry unique are the strong apologetic lyrics. Don't miss one of
the finest Christian poets at this week's show.
|
And
of course the houseband: rufus harris
will share. The band members include
Sidney Howard (keys) Jeannine Gardner (drums) and Charles Weldon
(bass). By the way, Rufus is currently working on a Christmas CD
to be released this year entitled: Come
and Listen.

Woodward Crossing - It is not often
that a really free (that is, no passing the hat or anything)
national concert comes town!
The Ichthus show at
Metropolitan United Methodist Church was a success! Two things:
You should not have missed this show and if you didn't you should have
had your ear protection!
National bands included:
Day of Fire
Alabastor Box
4th Avenue Jones &
Fighting Instinct
They really rocked the house and drew a nice crowd. Not only were
the bands skilled but they shared their faith onstage and off.
