Robert E. Norwood both onstage and
off. His album is fully orchestrated, but for 4F he performed a special acoustic
set. He shared tunes from his latest self-titled project.
Robert's style is indicative of the contours of big band and jazz
technques. With Randall Wilson on guitar, their performance was
moving and
masterful. That very day Randall had flown in
from Toronto and told us he was a bit fatigued but one would have never
know it from his performance. After Robert's performance, Rufus
talked with him onstage about his upbringing in Mississippi and
his musical influences. Robert E. Norwood was a real treat.

Dustin
Coleman - a fine artist, was onsite showcasing his work and
outside 4F sketching portraits. The young artist has a big heart
for Jesus and looks at life through artistic eyes that go deeper than
the surface. His paintings consisted of a combination of
portraits and apocalyptic works. He had an opportunity to share
onstage the inspiration behind his paintings and the role his faith
plays in his art.
delighted the audience with nice three part harmonies and exotic
rhythms. Lead singer, Scarlett Moore came across as confident,
sincere and genuine. While she admitted she did not write the
songs, she certainly made them her own. Kevin Casteel was focused
and precise on keys. He was a good singer as well. And
percussionist Jackson - a man with a gentle spirit played drums
and the djembe aggressively. Carl Beherndt on bass did a great
job of keeping the low end while Joe Palmer showed his versatility
playing guitar, trumpet and a pennywhistle flute. He was also a
good rhythm guitarist. One of the highlights of the band's set
was when they were joined by the Praise Team from Middlebelt Baptist
Church in Inkster performing a song called Thank You. For more information

challenged attendees to indeed trust in
the resurrection of Christ (Risen);
to look at the Scripture honestly (How
Do You Read It?) and with a song based on Romans 12 (My Life). The closing set
confronted Christian compromise with (No
Compromise) and 2BePraised
a tune which encourages everyone to look at and truly appreciate the
Lord's works.
When the second winning ticket was pulled the winner had to answer some
4thFridays trivia. Rufus brought up one of his old
friends Rufus Jackson more
commonly known as RJ to assist. That's right - Rufi were on stage that
night. The winner of the second prize had to
answer questions based on material in the newsletter. He
struggled a little but did come up with the correct answer. Take
note: Now there's another good reason to read the 4thFridays
newsletters!
Rufus and Rufus
Chris
Cheshire - this very cool lady has been writing
original music, and has been an active part of the Detroit music scene
for more than 15 years. In 1989, Chris co-founded the group Sister Seed
with fellow songwriter and musician, Alicia Gbur. Sister Seed was an
acoustic duo (also performed as a band), who became well-known for
their melodic harmonies and passionate live performances. Both of their
CD recordings (1994 "blue-green" and 1998 "if you were me") earned them
Detroit Music Awards. Highlights of their 12 years together were
showcases at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (1995); the Kerrville Folk
Festival (1996); the Ark in Ann Arbor; and a live recording at New
River Recording in Nashville, TN(1996). In May 2004, Chris
released her debut solo CD, "Thank You." Featuring highly acclaimed
producers and musicians Michael King and Danny Cox, "Thank You" marks
Chris' introduction as a solo artist. With a sound all her own, and
rooted in acoustic guitar, these songs vary stylistically from
acoustic/folk/pop to roots. Drawing from some of Detroit's finest
talent (Michael King, Danny Cox, John Dunn, James Simonson, Ben West,
Tim Diaz, David Mosher), this recording flows seamlessly and invites
the listener into the heart of the artist. "Marriage, motherhood and a
continuing spiritual journey have each had profound effects in steering
Chris to the place where this collection of songs converge." (Jim
Rawlings, Kensington Music Room) Chris will take the
4thFridays stage this Friday sharing tunes from her debut release Thank
You.
writing songs together in 1999, while he was the music director and
Libbie one of the worship leaders at their church. They have one
CD completed called Creation and another one in the works.
Their music is a mix of styles with influences from rock to country to
praise and worship. The mix of David's musical ability and Libbie's
deep melodic vocals gives their music a style that catches the
attention and appreciation of those who hear it. They will share
tunes from their latest release with the band on Friday.

revealing a lovely Detroit skyline. The other show on Aug. 12th
was held the same night as the Eminem concert at Comerica Park and the
Gordon Lightfoot concert at The Fox. Over 50,000 people
poured into Downtown Detroit making parking hairy. But a nice
crowd poured into the church to see Halfway to Here and Rufus. DJ
N-Tangibolz spun gospel tunes during breaks. The next show is
scheduled for September 9th and will be held at Metropolitan United
Methodist Church at 8000 Woodward in the New Center area. Special
guests will be the band - Alaris and Gospel Artist - Lavel
from Sagainaw.
