| August Highlights
The August show was great. It was our first show in Studio A at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Studio A is smaller and more intimate than the Dome room and provides just the right ambiance with its modern yet cozy setting. |
| First
on stage was rufus harris who kicked off the evening.

Laura McCandliss
Laura and her band’s performance was a real treat. If you didn’t make it to this show, you really missed a nice performance. |
The Poet’s Corner
– We featured more literary readings by the legendary Christian author
- C.S. Lewis. Chris Maurer and Lawrence Strong again read excerpts
from one of his most famous books – The Screwtape Letters. The first excerpt,
read by Lawrence, focused on how the enemy can use patriotism to take the
place of a relationship with God. The
letter also dealt with Uncle Screwtape and his nephew Wormwood discussing
whether or
not they should reveal their existence to humans – the pros and cons – quite interesting!. In the second excerpt, read by Chris Maurer, Wormwood’s Patient befriends a middle-aged unbelieving married couple. He
uses this couple to cause the Patient to question his own beliefs and wonder
whether his faith in Christ is ridiculous. Both letters illustrated the
enemy’s tactics in deceiving the believer.

| Something to think about
By Rufus Our adversary is like a baseball pitcher. The pitcher stands on the mound and intently concentrates on – not only just to strike us out – but also and ultimately how to win the game! Some the pitcher will walk – by intentionally throwing balls out of the strike zone. Others by hitting them with the ball. The pitcher will throw curves that will fly straight for a while and then will divert quickly to the left or the right – either into the strike zone or out of the strike zone. The pitcher will hurl a knuckleball that’ll appear to fly in a straight path and then violently will dip towards to ground. Meanwhile, the batter intently concentrates on the best way to hit the ball to win the game. It might be a homerun, a bunt, or a sacrifice fly. However, the most interesting phenomenon in this metaphor is that the batter must anticipate the ball’s flight path and decide whether or not to SWING BEFORE THE BALL GETS HIM OR HER. This speaks of being prepared. Just like the batter we have to anticipate our pitcher’s to determine the best way to win the game. 1Peter 5:8-9 |
