Good Music, Good Coffee, Good Company

January Highlights – What a great show we had last month! We promoted 4thFridays on WMUZ radio which really got the word out and brought in a nice gathering of enthusiastic folks.  We’d like to thank those of you who responded to the ad, called the radio station with questions about 4thFridays, and shared 4F with your friends.  For those of you who missed the show, here’s a recap.

rufus harris performed two dynamic sets.  Many people who came out had never heard Rufus’ music and were delighted to be hearing the house band live for the first time.   It was a great time. The band rocked!!
Next was Paul Dozier - Whether performing with or without band, he’s simply an outstanding musician.  He mixed creative sounds and styles into a soulful blend of Smooth Jazz with effortless moves.  He illustrated great musicianship and brilliant jazz guitar playing incorporating some intricate solos throughout. Paul’s sincere gospel message coupled with his distinctive style was inspiring and definitely a crowd-pleaser.
Really Good Coffee!! As some of you are aware, we started a new coffee service last month compliments of Lawrence Strong.  The coffee was delicious and the best we’ve ever had at 4thFridays, in our opinion.  We’d like to thank you Lawrence for the wonderful
coffee – after all good coffee is kind of important at 4thFridays.  We’ll offer a new flavor this month.  And of course our special 4thFridays house blend will be available as well.  If you don’t like coffee, have some hot chocolate or tea - they’re all free!
Next on stage - If you could take  fine art and transform it into music, you’d have the musical stylings of Scott Loudon.  He is by no means your typical Christian artist. His eclectic east meets west sound illustrates his musical roots and solidifies his place in the local world music scene. Scott challenged the audience to listen closely to his lyrics as he took us on a musical journey of the heart. His love of God and creation rings clearly as he embeds his faith into his unique sound. Here’s a look at what’s coming up on February 28th.

4thFridays welcomes an alternative/pop band from Grand Rapids - Sojourn. Over the course of its history, the band’s music has hinted at folk, blues, Celtic, Jazz, and Gospel.  The dynamic foursome has been compared to the likes of The Dave Matthews Band, Third Day, and Sister Hazel.  The group pulls together a mix which clearly sets them apart. They are currently finishing up work on their latest CD - Once Again to be released in mid March.  Check them out of the 28th and for more info visit www.sojournband.com.
Also February 28th - The Poet’s Corner will feature local author Elreta Dodds.  Elreta will discuss her new book - Is God a Chauvinist?  The Bible and Women: A Complete Look.  Rufus will interview Elreta and take questions from the audience.  She’ll discuss things like women in leadership, great women of the bible, and what that word “submit” really means.  There will be a book signing afterwards.  You can pick up the book ahead of time at any bookstore or purchase it at 4thFridays.  Bring your questions.  This promises to be a great show!
