  August Highlights
Last month was a great show.  We closed out the summer with country music artist - Sam Dougherty and the comedy of comedian - Darryl Earl

Sam Dougherty - Sam has become a dear friend of ours and our favorite country music artist.  He played back at our show in July of 2002 when 4thFridays was held at the Southfield Centre for the Arts.   We were delighted to have him back once again. Sam was part of our Operation Starting Line (Prison Fellowship) team last year.  In addition to performing some great tunes, Sam shared some of his prison ministry experiences - how ministering to the prison population has impacted his life and how it surprised him at how well his style of music was received behind the walls.  He sang songs from his latest release - Six Strings and God.  Many people were visibly moved by his heartfelt words and testimony.  Even folks who didn't like country music were drawn to this gifted singer and songwriter's music and seemed to cling to his every word.

Next... Darryl Earl - You know comedians have a tough job.  They come armed only with a microphone and (hopefully) wit.  Audiences usually come with the attitude, "Let's see if this guy can make me laugh, probably not!"

Darryl very quickly won over the 4thFridays crowd which can sometimes be a little tough.  Earl was hilarious!  He shared funny stories about work, family and church.  Unfortunately, these stories are difficult to repeat.  It's just one of the situations where you had to be there.

A cheerful heart is good medicine... Proverbs 17:22 (NIV).

rufus harris - was shared some great

tunes.  He introduced new bassist - Charles Weldon.  We met Charles through a friend of a friend's.  He has been a tremendous asset to the band.  His talent coupled with his laid back style make shim a great fit!

Here’s a look at what’s coming up on Sept 24th:

Angel Rivers -  Since the rufus harris release party, 4thFridays attendees have anxiously awaited the return of this talented, insightful poet.  Her delivery is unique and her words compelling.   Check her out this Friday.

Motor City Saints –  This is a very talented band that many of you may not be familiar with.  The Motor City Saints have played locally and at venues from Chicago to Nashville and from Ohio to Buffalo, NY.  Their musical style can be described as pop.    Their catchy hooks, beatlesque harmonies, and unforgettable melodies make them a joy to listen to.   With lyrics that always point people to God, the Motor City Saints deliver a good dose of energy and the Gospel.  Look for their new project - Cover Me - to be released in a few months.

OTHER NEWS:

Arts Beats and Eats Weekend - The Sunday of Arts Beats and Eats (Sunday, September 5, 2004) - a festival in Pontiac, we did something pretty cool.  The Bridge Church located in the heart of Pontiac decided to feature a Christian stage in the parking lot.  We teamed up with the church by inviting some of our 4thFridays artists to participate in what we called The Bridge Stage.  The stage featured the following lineup: Jazz artist - Paul Dozier, Rap Artist - Knowgood, Folk Artist - Laura McCandliss, Pop Band - Motor City Saints, Gospel Blues Band - Brothers Union and Rufus Harris.  It was a one day event from 2-7:30pm.  It was a great opportunity to catch some of the ABE foot traffic and to invite Christian music lovers to a Christian stage with diverse music.  All for free!
Attention Artists - We invite Christian artists of all types to come out to see our shows - whether you want to perform at a future show or just check out what we're doing.  We'd like to meet you.

4thFridays is presented by theCamp - Christian Artists and Musicians Project - a non-profit organization.  One of our purposes is to promote and showcase the independent Chrisian artist - especially Michigan artists.  So if you are an artist, we encourage you to come check us out and support what we're doing.  We need your help in order to make an impact.  Soon there will be news that will concern you directly.
Fundraiser - Stay tuned for information on our first annual fundraiser for theCamp in November.  Proceeds from this function will benefit all C.A.M.P. activities including 4thFridays and various other art related ministry.
