Good Music, Good Coffee, Good Company

coffeecup                      Here We Go...
Last month's show fell on Good Friday and it was a "Good Friday"!  Even though it was a holiday, once 8pm rolled around, folks began to file in to enjoy a wonderful show.
We celebrated three years of Good Music, Good Coffee and Good Company.  To commemorate the occasion we had birthday cake, showed a
video of all artists having performed over the past three years, and enjoyed great live music and poetry.
Angel Rivers - We opened up the March show with this poet extraordinaire.  Imagine a truly gifted poet with penetrating words yet a meek and humble disposition.  That's Angel.  Her professionalism is also worth noting.  (She patiently waits seated alone in the front row for her cue.  What's she thinking?   Perhaps she's going over the words in her head?)  It never appears she has memorized her poetry.  The five pieces she performed seemed to flow from her effortlessly.  A teacher by day who moonlights as a poet by night, Angel's words captured the audience.  Even some of her own students who were present that night were blown away by the woman they call "Ms Rivers".  Her new CD is scheduled for release this summer.  You'll also be able to hear it out on JustRadio.NET.

Not Our Own - Chris and wife Jenny Kokenos make up this fine fine duo.  This sincere couple demonstrated lives that

have been changed by the power of God.   They shared unpretentious, heartfelt songs from their current project - Would You Be Ready? And while the words were simple, the messages were much deeper.  Chris is a storyteller.  His sense of humor showed as he shared funny stories in between songs about life and ministry.  Jenny sweetened their music ministry with nice harmonies that were thankful and thought-provoking.  They are currently in the studio working on a new album to be released in the near future.  For more informaton about Not Our Own - visit them at:

And then there was the K-N-O-W-G-DOUBLE O - D...
We consider Knowgood - if not the best - one of the best Christian rappers around.  But he'll tell you that he's no rapper.  He performs "purified hip hop".  But this purified hip hop artist ate something that wasn't so pure and almost didn't make it to the show.  He called the afternoon of the show as we were heading down to the Center for setup.  He sounded pretty bad.  He said he became ill in the middle of the night with what he believed was food poisoning and wasn't sure he'd be able to make it to the show.  But being a true professional, he wasn't going to leave us in a lurch.  He contacted a
fellow hip hop  artist to be on standby to cover in the event the illness did not subside.  We breathed a prayer for him and continued our drive down to the show.  Three hours before showtime he called and said he was feeling better and would be able to make it after all.  Praise the Lord!!!   We were excited

and so was he.  In fact, he was so excited he forgot to bring CDs!!  He contacted his wife Gina who

was able to drive them down to the Center just in time for his set.  Whew!!!  He kicked off his set coming from the back of the room with a cool intro song.  Because he had been sick, he was visibly drained at some points but was still very engaging.  He admitted he was a little out of breath at one point and looked for
somewhere to sit down on stage.  The audience laughed.  He shared some "slammin" tunes and addressed the young people who had come out that night about the lures of secular hip hop and told them to beware of the enemy's traps and deception.  He helped Rufus with the raffle afterwards.  Knowgood's new CD is set to be released this summer.  For more info, visit: www.knowgood.com .
rufus harris - performed a really cool rendition of Takin' It To The Streets - by Michael McDonald.  Then shared a tune from the self-titled rufus harris CD - Everything is Yours followed by Love In What You Do.  As usual, Rufus and band focused our hearts and minds on Christ which is a good thing for all times - but certainly appropriate for Good Friday.  Rufus and the band closed out the night with Risen - a song about the glorious resurrection of Christ sharing that as 1Corinthians 15 states - without the resurrection of Christ our faith is in vain.

Here's a look at what's coming up on April 22nd:

Paul Dozier - this extremely gifted guitarist brings fresh sounds and jazzy blends of instrumental as well as vocal arrangements, which seem to have no boundaries, ranging from Smooth Jazz to Contemporary Christian.  Paul has garnered headline openings with noted artists such as Paul Taylor, Wayman Tisdale, Will Downing, Phil Driscoll, The Clark Sisters, Shirley Caesar, The Hawkins Family and much more.  He has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Jamaica.  Paul also plays with a six man jazz group called Zamar.  He's working on a new project to be released this Spring.  And check out his new website:  www.pauldozier.com.
Beth Stalker - has been singing since the age of three and released her first album - Jesus Loves Me at the tender age of four.  Throughout grade school she performed in choir and in musical theatre.  Eventually she was singing with well-known jazz musicians and gigging professionally.  It was during that time that her voice matured and her style developed.  Today she blends folk, blues and jazz to help create evocative melody lines accompanied by her solid and pure vocals.  Her intensely personal relationship with God is portrayed in the lyrics throughout her latest release - Here With You.  And although the themes and emotions of the album are varied, there is a common thread of faith, hope and love.   Beth his now able to look back on her life through the eyes of faith.  Check her out at this week's show.  www.bethstalker.com
