Here We Go...
We are so very
excited about 2005. Not only will we feature returning artists
like Zamar and Angel Rivers but we'll be introducing some new faces to
the 4thFridays' stage including: Contemporary Christian Artist -
Beth Stalker, Gospel Artist - David Ivey, Pop/Rock Artist -
Miranda Stone and many more.
We ask you to pray that God would lead us
so that we accomplish His purpose and that both the independent artist
and the Church body would be blessed by these efforts. Now - on
to October Highlights and what's brewing at 4F in
2005...
October Highlights
The Poet's
Corner - In October we introduced a new poet - Rhonda Welsh to the 4thFridays
stage. She shared wonderful
original pieces with cool musical accompaniment behind
her. Her writings, cleverly woven with instrumental
tunes, were insightful and sophisticated. We will certainly
have Rhonda back in the near future. She is currently working on
a poetry book and CD project. We'll keep you posted.
Next...Jan Krist - We welcomed back one of folk music's
finest. She was our opening artist in 2004 and closed
out the show in October. She along with husband Alan on
percussion and John Bizer on
guitar shared songs from her many projects including her
latest release - When Planets
Collide - a project that
deals with the collision of politics and religion, hope and fear, grace
and judgment. Jan's performance was heartfelt and
engaging. Her incredible voice coupled with clever songwriting
made her an absolute joy to listen to. Her intricate lyrics
challenged the listener on issues of love, war, peace and mercy.
She once said that if she were to describe her music it would be "hope
in a minor key".
rufus harris - once
again opened and closed the show with some great tunes. One
of the highlights of the band's set was one he hadn't performed in a
while - Left with Questions.
This thought-provoking song speaks of Rufus' search for
truth. Also, performed was Risen - a bluesy tune with a real
cool groove. (This song made number 10 on Christian
Blues.net a couple of weeks ago.)
Then the band rocked the house with How Do You Read It? and slowed it
down with UMustBeBornAgain.
A great set performed passionately and skillfully.
Here's
a look at what's coming up Jan. 28th:
The
Poet's Corner - Resident
Poet - Tracy Price will share
readings from Billy Graham's Devotion - Hope For Each Day and
Oswald Chambers' book - Our Brilliant Heritage. Both
will encourage and inspire.
Zamar - We welcome back
a 4thFridays favorite. The members of this
innovative celestial band are all well-seasoned musicians, with many
years of professional experience and training in jazz,
classical,
gospel and rock. Founded over 10 years ago,
Zamar's sound is easily compared to renowned
contemporary jazz greats with influences of jazz masters of yesteryear.
Their engaging sound leaves audiences refreshed and
yearning for more. If you've never heard and seen
Zamar's live performance, you don't know what you're missing.
And experiencing Zamar in intimate Studio
A is extra special.
Their music
appeals to a diverse growing jazz audience. Check them
out this Friday and see an up close interview with the
band's saxophonist - Marlin - at this month's show.

Turner), and Everything You Want

talent. Normally, an artist must submit a project
to even be considered for the showcase. But
the folks at the MFEA personally invited Rufus and band last year
to perform at their annual brunch. What an
honor! The event was held at
the Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo. The theme was
"Jazz it Up". Rufus shared two new tunes,
Paul McCartney's Maybe I'm Amazed and Tina Turner's We
Don't Need Another Hero along with some originals: Not Black
or White and No Compromise. The band
performed well and was warmly received.
Help
Indies
- Indies
is short for Independent. Christian Indies have a
lot to offer the world but face many obstacles. Too many abandon
their gift because of discouragement and frustration. Want
to help them get out there and fulfill their calling? Here
are some very practical things you can do:
-Buy their
music
-Go to their
shows
-Request their
music on the radio
-Ask for their
products at music stores
-Encourage
churches and other venues to book them (suggest them as opening
acts
for headliners)
-Contact them
about starting a street team
-And most of all - pray for them
4thFridays was actually started by Indies
and friends. So - on behalf of all us who are
just trying to get out their, we thank you for your support!
